EAST INDIA ELEVATORS LTD. was entrusted with the meticulous renovation of a 408 kg passenger elevator located within Laxmi Vilas Palace, a heritage landmark in Vadodara with over a century of history. Originally installed by Marryat & Scott Ltd., London, this elevator has served palace residents and dignitaries since the early 20th century. The project presented a unique challenge: to modernise and restore the lift’s functionality and safety while preserving its original heritage character and architectural integrity.
Given the palace’s protected status, no new holes, anchors, or structural alterations could be made to the historic fabric of the building. Additionally, the aesthetic charm and craftsmanship of the original elevator including its beautifully aged wood paneling were to be preserved and reinstated using the same wood species and design motifs employed a century ago.

This renovation demonstrates EAST INDIA ELEVATORS LTD.’s capability to balance heritage conservation with modern elevator performance, ensuring that a treasured piece of cultural history continues to function safely and elegantly into the future. The project not only preserves a working artefact of industrial heritage but also enriches the visitor experience at one of Vadodara’s most iconic landmarks.
